HCB "VIRTUAL CONCERT #5" - July 29, 2020Here is the 5th and final concert from our past performances … this is the FINAL concert from 2007 and features band/audience favorites including: “Instant Concert,” “On the Mall March,” Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” (with LIVE cannon), and Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever!” You’ll also hear soloist Diana Becker sing a Sousa vocal selection: “I’ve Made My Plans for the Summer;” a little Beatles, Ray Charles, “American Overture for Band” and more! (*Please adjust your audio volume UP for some of these selections and feel free to fast forward as needed.)
We hope that this will be the LAST time we have to put old recordings of the band up online in lieu of live performances! Please stay safe until NEXT summer when we look forward to welcoming you back IN PERSON as the HCB celebrates its 75th Anniversary Season! Dear HCB Musicians and Loyal Audience Members: Tonight would have been the first rehearsal of the HCB's 75th summer season. Alas, the HCB will be silent this summer for the first time since the band began in 1946 when a group of recently returned WWII vets/musicians and local instrumentalists came together under the direction of Rufus Kern to entertain Huntington residents with the formation of The Huntington Town Band. At first the band lacked a home and so it found audiences in Huntington by taking the band on the road to perform at town parks (playgrounds) and on softball diamonds. Even though the daylight during the summer stays bright enough until after 8:30PM or thereabouts, it was common that audience members would drive onto the playing fields to surround the band with lights from all the headlights so the band could see their music well into the dark. Fast-forward to the present ... So, here we are and I for one am somewhat confused in that I have Monday and Wednesday evenings free through the end of July. It just doesn't seem right. Our community band friends in Northport are going to post video/recordings of past concerts. As it turns out, I have a "key to the HCB vault" so I would like to offer our musicians and audience the same opportunity beginning on Wednesday evening, July 1st. Stay tuned for further information. The HCB concert season WILL not be completely lost. Also, if you have photos to share from rehearsals/concerts PLEASE feel free to send to me at: gellerttn@gmail.com and I will try to post some different ones each week!
